The Liberal Party of Canada – Working in Partnership with
Canada’s First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples
The Liberal Party of Canada has long believed that the best way to solve the challenges faced by Aboriginal Peoples is through respectful partnership and dialogue. The Party’s commitment to consultation and cooperation was once again demonstrated with the signing of the Kelowna Accord in 2005, the result of more than a year of discussion and engagement. Were it not for the narrow-minded vision of Stephen Harper and his fellow Conservatives, and the opportunism of Jack Layton and the NDP, Kelowna would already be making a difference in the lives of Aboriginals today. It was also the Liberal government who first committed to the apology to the survivors of residential schools.
As Prime Minister, Michael Ignatieff is committed to working with Canada’s First Nations, Métis, Inuit leaders and grassroots. Our platform offers comprehensive policies to improve the lives of Aboriginals, both immediately and in the long-term.
While the mistakes and injustices of the past still linger, there is much reason for optimism. As Canada’s fastest growing and youngest population, opportunities for the next generation are there but must be supported. Michael Ignatieff and the Liberal Party recognize the enormous contribution that our Aboriginal communities have made to Canadian culture and development. Canadian society is richer for the full participation of Aboriginal peoples and a Liberal government will ensure that this contribution is understood and strengthened.
In the next election, vote for Michael Ignatieff and the Liberal Party of Canada.
